With flat irons more popular than ever, it seems that many have forgotten how beautiful and sexy a full head of bouncy, tousled hair can look. Whether chin length or waist length, curls and waves get noticed, so if you are looking for a style that will turn heads, this is the way to go. Fortunately, even those born with straight hair can achieve a sulty, tousled, just-tumbled-out-of-bed look with nothing more than a hairdryer, a bit of styling gel, and a spritz of hair spray.

The following technique for how to scrunch straight hair will take about 20-30 minutes, dpending on how thick your hair is, so if you are in a hurry this might not be the best time to try this new procedure. The hair needs to be wet at the beginning of the technique, but it’s not necessary that it be recently washed, and a little bit of natural oil will add a healthy shine to your curls.

Begin by towelling hair until it’s just beginning to dry, then massage a dab of gel or mousse throughout your hair. Sit on the edge of a chair or tub with a hairdryer in one hand. Turn the dryer on to medium, and lean over so that your head is upside down, flipping your hair towards the floor.

With your free hand, reach down to the tips of the hair and gather and entire strand in one hand, scrunching and curling as you go. Once you’ve reached your scalp, keep hold the hair and squeezing it while aiming the hairdryer at the scrunched fist of hair. Continue doing this for the entire head of hair.

In between scrunchings,direct the hair dryer at your scalp and massage your scalp with your fingertips in a circular motion. The massaging and scrunching combine to influence your hair to dry a curly, wavy, bodylicious, beautiful mess. Finish the look with an overall application of hairspray while you are still upside down, and continue to blow dry for another minute or two while the hair spray dries. Turn right side up, and enjoy the beautiful look you have created.
